My Conditioning Journey
Throughout my life, I have always been active and into all forms of Sports and conditioning. I come from a really fit family that focuses a lot on fitness and prioritizes fitness. During high school, i was really big into my rugby I love it and was always out on the field or in the gym. I was really strong and really fit most of my off time was either in the gym or on the field. Leaving matric I weighed 94Kgs. This was a fit and strong 94Kgs i had a proper rugby build.
Coming into mixchange I knew the guys that we’re here and how fit they were. I Knew Ps John loved conditioning and loved to push himself and give himself good challenges to work to. He would often mention it in the Sunday services where he would tell the congregation what events he and his A team were doing. I would often here from Simon who stayed here in Witbank that they would go for long runs, Kayak across the dam, swim and cycle. This is obviously very different to the training i did at the time as all the training i did leaving Matric was just gym. I loved the gym and actually didnt really want to stop Gyming. But coming here i definitely had a strong desire to join the guys in these extreme challenges they were doing. I had a desire to do it and wanted to do but i struggled with it at first because that would mean doing alot more cairdo and at the time i was really worried about losing all the muscle i had built over the years.
When i first came in 2021 i slowly made the change. I would gym and train with the team it was really working nicely and i had a good balance to the two different types of training but as the year in 2021 went on i found it hard to keep up with both forms of training and i slowly started to back off the gym and spent more time conditioning with the team. Looking back at my Conditioning over the 2 years i never ever thought i would be come a keen cyclist in fact when i was at school i hated cycling and i thought it was weird but here i am now loving it doing many events. The Lord has truly blessed me in this fitness journey it was hard at first to make the adjustment but i knew i had to fit the legacy and change to be more social with the team because alot of our social time is actually formed around conditioning. Alot of my fond memories here at Mixchange have been formed and based around conditioning with all various kinds of events we have done. The highlight of this journey for me was when i did a half ironman in April 2022 never did I ever think i would do a half ironman the thought of swimming just put me off i couldn’t even do one proper length at school and now i found myself completing a half Ironman.
Right now i am functionally strong and fit weighing 87Kgs which is a lot more better as it’s easier to move around on the bike and easier to run. Going forward I look forward to many more exciting events ahead to work towards.
