Testimony
My Name is Luke Caveney, I am 20 years old and im doing my 2nd year here at Mixchange program. Growing up I have always been a Christian. I have had the privilege of growing up my whole life in the word of faith and I’ve had great examples through my parents as they taught us as a family to always put god first in everything we do. Since I was born I have always been in heritage of faith ministries and had Ps John as my spiritual father. Growing up I have always loved the Lord since a little boy at the age of 7 I was on a church camp and thats where I accepted Jesus as my Lord and savior and let him come into my life Ps John was there and he was the one who led me in a prayer.
Growing up through my teenage years I went to St Stithians College in Johannesburg. During my time at school, I Loved it, especially in high school. I had a great group of friends and I loved being at school with my mates. I was really good at Rugby and in my matric year, I was elected as the First team captain which is a big deal for an all-boys school. I was also elected as prefect in charge of the Head of Discipline at the school. At the time I really thought I was the hot shoot of the school. First-team captain and head of discipline. It all got to my head and distracted me so much that I put on such an image to impress others. Things were going all so while at school I was thriving in my Rugby and my plan was to potentially take it further and see how I would do while studying after school. However, things changed during my Matric year in 2020 Covid came and that meant no rugby. It was extremely hard at the time for me as I put in so much effort for my final rugby season for the school. All my time and energy went either into playing rugby or training for rugby. And now because of Covid, there was no rugby. It made me think deeply about my life and I wondered what’s next it was a big realization to me that actually I made Rugby an idol in my life and I was making it form my identity.
Looking back at my time at school Through my teenage years I can with confidence say I got really distracted and neglected my walk with God. I wasn’t interested in going to church anymore I only went to please my parents and because I had to. I wasn’t reading my bible as I use to when I was a young boy and I just placed other things above God and neglected him. At the time I didn’t even realize it because I was just doing what everybody else around me was doing I had become habituated to the norm of school and just followed along.
The biggest breakthrough moment that came in my life was in August 2020 when Ps Sharon spoke in church and boldly declared that the Lord is taking the children!! At first, I had no idea what this meant or where it was going to go. I was already set on my
future I was going to go study at Tuks University and play rugby on the side. But hearing the I Will take children messages that came on Sundays really changed my whole view of my future. Everything I was going to do was all for myself I wasn’t living the plan of God for my life, in fact, I didn’t even inquire what his plan was for my life instead I was just making my own plans. A big shift happened in my heart through hearing these messages I could sense the call of God on my Life. I was still uncertain though and I actually kept on denying what I was sensing until one day after a Sunday service I said to my dad I need to see Ps John for a meeting that was in September 2020. My dad set up a meeting with Ps John and I then went to see Ps John. I spoke to Ps John about everything that changed in me and what i was experiencing through the messages. Ps John then told me that what this was, was God. He then went on to explain Mixchange what was going to happen the following year and how young people who loved God were coming to offer up their lives to him. When Ps John mentioned Mixchange i knew this was everything I was looking for and wanted. In fact, leaving that meeting I just cried and cried it was my Spirit man crying out for it.
About a month later Ps John was preaching and he was preaching a message called young people choosing God. In this message, I was moved and Ps John was led by the spirit of God to call me up to the front, and thats when I decided that I would always live for God and serve him. From that moment on my life has changed and the next year i joined mixchange and i have now been here 2 years and loved every minute of it. I’ve grown in the word and I’ve encountered God and the big one is I have more direction for my future of whats God called me to
